Elijah Shafah, Senior Pastor of Greater Saint Paul AME Church in Troy, AL, or affectionately known as “The Paul” or GSP, hails from Atlanta, GA where he accepted the call into ministry at the age of 15. Prior to becoming a pastor he was ordained as an itinerant deacon and elder in the Atlanta North Georgia Conference apart of the 6th Episcopal District of the AME Church. In July 2001, he was appointed senior pastor of Cedar Springs AME Church in Whigham, GA. He went on to pastor two additional churches in the metro Atlanta area.
In September 2009, Pastor Shafah was appointed to GSP. There, his ministry has been instrumental in significant growth and development in many areas of ministry. Leading into his 7th year, he has seen over 200 souls converted and or join the church; created numerous ministries that include, “The Village” (children’s church), GENESIS (college ministry), GSP Community Development Corporation (501 (c) (3), and many, many others. Pastor Shafah is also a dynamic businessman. Under his leadership Greater Saint Paul has purchased property surrounding the church, now virtually owning the block, liquidated two church loans, installed new windows in the sanctuary, a new handicapped bathroom, and new carpet.
Academically, Pastor Shafah studied and received his undergraduate degree in Psychology/English from Georgia State University, a Masters of Divinity from Interdenominational Theological Center, and post graduate course work toward his doctorate from Argosy University.
Most importantly, Pastor Shafah is a family man. He is the father of one beautiful little girl, Meley Tonia Shafah.
